Roles in the ECE Community:  Internationally
The three international organizations that appealed to me are Save the Children, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, and UNICEF.  I chose Save the Children because the organization makes the statement that they give children a healthy start and the opportunity to learn and protection from harm.  One worker in the video said we respond to any emergency of scale anywhere in the world.  The worker stated they are unique in that they are specifically looking out for the welfare of children in an emergency because sometimes their needs are different that adults and the rest of the community.  His statement helped me see this organization has the best interest of all children.  The job opportunity I found interesting with the Save the Children organization is a Health, Nutrition & HIV/AIDS Director this position requires the following experience in high quality technical advice in health, nutrition & HIV/AIDS programs for children, experience in resource mobilization, business development, minimum 5 years’ experience in senior management position, commitment to children’s rights and tan ability to provide leadership in this area, managing health related grants, experience in strategic planning process, working effectively with partner organizations, donor relation, and fluency in written and spoken English.

The skill this candidate must possess are a Master degree in the area of health or related field, ability to inspire others, ability to deliver results, resource management training and capacity building as well as Mentoring skills and the commitment to and understand of Save the Children’s aim, values and principles.  This role interest me because I was not aware rising challenges they have with HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh.  This individual is responsible for overseeing the programs ensure proper measures are relevant to health, nutrition, and HIV/AIDS.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development mission is to help governments foster prosperity and fight poverty through economic growth and financial stability.  The interest I have in this information could help organization make informed decisions using the information on the web site.  This organization had jobs that did not require a candidate to work directly with children and their families but in an indirect way.  All the position were management positions; after looking through several positons I decided none of the positions appealed to me they were too technical.  The Policy Analyst for Higher Education was the role I chose.  The position requires the applicant to extensive education economic, public policy, social science or a similar discipline.  Professionally they want 3-5 years’ experience in higher education, knowledge of policy issues, substantial expertise in one or more key area of higher education policy, experience working with quantitative and qualitative techniques used in research just to name a few.  Fluency in English and French is important.

UNICEF is a well-known organization brought into the forefront because of work done by Angelina Jolie.  The organization believes children have a right to survive, thrive and fulfill their potential to the benefit of a better world.  I chose this organization because I have seen many commercials about the work they perform but I have never viewed their web page.  The job at UNICEF that interest me Child Protection Specialist they are looking for a candidate who is committed too creative professional and are passionate about making a lasting difference in the lives children.  The individual should have the ability to coordinate monitoring and reporting against Strategic Plan indicator, collaborate with Headquarter colleagues as well as others.  The link below takes you to the web page to view full job description ( the requirements are long).

  1. Cynthia, great post, Thanks to our studies at Walden, that I have been able to really learn what each of these popularly known organizations does for children and their families. I had no idea that Save The Children were that solid in their quest for helping children. According to your post, they go into any situation, any where and rescue children. I am so glad to see that there are so many organizations that are helping children. Which of them would you most like to work for?
